The Nigerian music industry has evolved since the first commercial recordings were made in the 1900s.
Fast forward to the late 1990s and the proliferation of simpler audio video technology, the industry grew with amazing speed.
Currently, while many musicians are dropping great songs almost daily, fans of the good old days are calling for artistes from the era they love. Many musicians making waves now have patterns closely resembling some of the good old days.
From among the ‘good old era’ and those dropping ‘club bangers’ currently, here are collaborations that would make great waves.
1. Blackky and Patoranking
This is the first point of call. Blackky is one of the first dance hall reggae artistes in Nigeria’s history. His songs, such as ‘Rosie’ and others remain evergreen for Nigerians who have been around since the 1990s. A collaboration with Patoranking, currently one of nation’s biggest dance hall art would be a delight to watch.
2. Evi Edna Ogholi and Cynthia Morgan
A work featuring these two would be bringing the 90s reggae queen together with the current dance hall champion among the ladies. Cynthia Morgan can do all the lyrics while the the Happy Birthdaycrooner would do well with the hooks and choruses.
3. Bongos Ikwe and Tuface
If these two were in the same generation, they would probably be brothers.
Bongos Ikwe led the Groovies Band to rock the Nigerian music industry in the 70’s and 80’s, singing soulful music with beautiful lyrics that anyone could relate to. What more, the “Cock Crow at Dawn” crooner is from the Idoma tribe of Benue State just like Tuface. They both feature the Idoma language in their songs too.

If you listen carefully to the songs by both of them you’d see the similarity already. Mike Okri reigned in the 1990s. Songs such as Rumba Dance, Time na money andOmoge have stayed fresh in the music scene and has been sampled by many new artistes. The PSquare band is known for highly danceable compositions and samples from the past. So a collaboration between the two would be so hot, it will create a lot of heat on the dance floor for a long time.
5. Asa and Onyeka Onwenu
The duo could just do Afro pop or go all the way to do a Nigerian soul music. Which ever way, it would be a hit among all music lovers in Nigeria and beyond. Both singers possess unique singing voices and fascinating abilities when it comes to voice gymnastics. What more? Both are steep into sampling Nigerian folk songs. They both sing conscious music too. A combination of the duo’s talent is destined to hit platinum in the Nigerian market
