THE BROKEN DESTINY:SWORD OF VENGEANCE 7 and 8

Chapter V ! !

The Forgotten Lands
**************************
Lucien
**************************
Three nights have passed and they have seen me pulling
down heavy volumes of books, trying to find out how I
was created. I got bored of waiting for reports from
those I asked to watch Elphisisus. The reports have all
been disappointing and I must admit that I am quite
shocked at the level the old wizard has stooped to just
to be my better. Why would he dig up the rotten bodies
of Kieran’s family and then cut them, hoping to find
out the reason why he was just like me. His parents
were not born with the gift and the only one of his
family that had the gift apart from him was killed by
me. His daughter had an unusual gift of sorcery, she
could actually write prophecies. I was so glad when I
found out but since I took her gift from her, killing
her as I took it, I have been able unable to use it. I
have quite a number of prophecies that have been
difficult to interpret as the gift of prophecy has been
really difficult to find. I learnt that no one has been
born with any form of such for the last three
generations. To have found one in the middle of the
woods, waiting for me to get it was nothing short of
favor from the spirits but I have been unable to use it.
I have been unable to know why I can’t use the gift but
then, I have been engrossed in far more important
things. My father was a pure wizard, which means that
there was no gift specification for him, he could use all
varieties of the gift except of course, writing
prophecies. His kinds were extremely rare and they
have always come from the royal family, no common
man has ever been born with such a gift, the reason for
that is still unknown. My father was the last pure
wizard, there hasn’t been another. My father was
feared and respected by all, not just because of his
powers but because of his intelligence and his ability to
conjure spells that could break ancient holds as strong
as the one found in the ungifted. Everyone had the
expectation that I would surpass him in every way but I
have fell short of doing that despite the fact that I
possessed both sides of the gift, a luxury my father
didn’t have. Every one of his spells are nowhere to be
found which made me conclude that they are probably
hidden somewhere, to prevent the wrong hands from
getting it. He couldn’t have passed through so much to
do the impossible and then destroyed his achievements,
it doesn’t make any sense. I am most certainly missing
something.
My mother was just an ordinary sorceress, which explains
why that side of my gift is on the low compared to my
wizard side, that’s if my parent’s gift has anything to
do with my powers. If that is the case, then the spell is
correct as i have the full abilities of a wizard and a
little bit of sorcery. I am not a pure wizard though
because I was also born with the gift of sorcery, which
adds up to what I am. Kieran’s case is quite different
as both his parents were ungifted and since their
powers were locked, it’s impossible for him to have any
gift, much less both sides of it. I am certain his
parents were not the first ungifted to get married and
birth children, why is his case different? There is
something out of the ordinary that I cannot seem to
explain with the man. I have been told that he is
headed for the forgotten lands and it is quite a puzzle
why the guardians would travel such distance to come
get him from here. He must be very important to those
old witches who have refused to die, but the question is
why and I might not be able to know the answer to that
question because Nyasa won’t be allowed into the city as
she is ungifted and therefore has no business there. No
magic from the outside works there which makes me
doubt if writing through the travel book will work,
that’s if Nyasa finds a way in. I must find another way;
I guess it’s time for me to allow her give herself fully
to the man if that will give her a way into the city. I
must know what they want with him, before it’s too late
for me to change anything.

Elphisisus
******************************************
I slumped to a chair and tried to get some rest as I
have been on my feet for so long, I have lost count of
time. I have tried every spell I know on the bodies to
try and find out how Kieran Carrows got his powers but
I have only arrived at dead ends. His parents were
ungifted and his wife was a plain human. His daughter
on the other hand had the gift of sorcery but that was
taken away from her by the King. We know that she got
her gift from her father but where did his come from?
I felt his gift during our last encounter and his was
stronger than Lucien’s despite the number of gifts he
has harnessed from people. His wizard side was similar
to that of Nero, Lucien’s father but there was
something about his gift I couldn’t bring myself to
explain. His gift seemed too unnatural, no one should be
born with everything in him, something or someone
powerful was involved and I must find out what or whom
they are.

“What is it , Melfisius?” I asked the old wizard who still
looked shocked after he was told something.
“……..Harrison has been killed, I can’t sense his gift
anymore.” He replied me with a few tears dropping
from his eyes.
“ I told you to go in the place of that fool, who is so
full of himself, now he is dead and we still don’t the
man.” I was very angry but I didn’t want to show it, I
had to be calm.
“When did you know of this and where was the place you
tracked him to?” “He was just outside the town of
Aydridrill when he died.”
“Good, there is still time. Get some men and head
towards that town using the deserted path; you might
be able to find something. Do not return without the
man, I have waited too long for such an opening to pass
me by.”
He nodded and got a grip of himself before calling out
to my best trackers. I knew it was a risk sending my
men but I had become desperate, the man was proving
too difficult to capture. It won’t be long now, as no one
has ever been able to escape Merfisius before, not even
the pure wizard, Nero.

MELFISIUS
**************************
Harrison can’t be dead, how could that have happened?
He is the most resourceful man I have ever known and
one of the intelligent I have been privileged to meet.
How can such a simple task bring him to his end;
capturing a man with an old woman by his side should be
one of his simplest missions till his death. I am certain
the man didn’t make use of his gift because I haven’t
felt it for days now, so the story must be that an old
woman bested the legendary Harrison together with the
nine man with him, how humorous. What a way to end an
adventure!
I and Harrison grew up together, we were practically
brothers, and we fought and played together even
though I was the older one with two full seasons. That
difference in age never got between us, it only brought
us closer. He was too smart for his age, and that was
the trait that attracted me to him. We were ten and
twelve of age respectively when we discovered our
gifts. He was a wizard but with the unique ability to
feel the gift and light in humans. He has since been
able to use that ability to harness gifts from children
for those who could afford his services. I got this
powerful because of him but the blood of countless little
kids was on him and when he lost his own family to some
grieved customer, he stopped his famous trade and
decided to start tracking instead. He was able to find
whoever he so desires with his ability and not one has
proved too difficult to find, not even the evil king,
Nero.
If the most elusive person to find in history didn’t
prove to be a difficult task for him, why then is this
simple man so difficult to get? I must be careful
myself and I must keep a clear mind devoid of
vengeance, else I could go the same way he did. When
the trackers were ready, I ordered them to head north
as I intended to meet this strange man upfront and cut
off any escape route for him. I have done every
command from the present king, even killing his father
after he discovered his heir was ungifted. I helped him
in killing his siblings who were gifted as I understood
from the prophecy that a man of immense power will
rise and conquer all of the lands. The man was supposed
to be my king but when we heard of Lucien, we all
thought he was the prophecy brought to life but he
hasn’t shown any glimpse of such power. This is why that
power of his should be given to my king as that might
just be the spell to unlock his own powers. We can’t be
certain yet as that traitorous Nero destroyed every
record of the spells he agreed to create and used the
spell on his son. Well, the spirits have shown favor
towards for once and decided to give us what we
deserve by releasing a man better in power to Lucien.
All I need to do is get him and make my King the
prophecy in the flesh. Power must return to the north.
We were on the path to the deserted route when I felt
someone with the gift heading towards our direction.
The king was right after all, they were headed this way.
I told my men to lay siege by going into the woods and
wait for my signal to surround the man after I must
have stopped him. They nodded and disappeared into
the wood while I stopped my horse and waited for the
man. But as soon as the gift I sensed got closer, it’s
powers became bigger and stronger and then it dawned
on me that the man must have released his gift again,
but why? Did he sense me from a far or probably the
woman did. Anyway, I need not fear as I am certain
that he is quite the novice when it comes to using
magic. He won’t be a problem.
I saw two horses heading towards my direction and but
the occupants looked quite different from what I have
been told the past few days. The man on the horse had
quite the look and surely would have given me a run for
my money when I was still younger. His long hair which
he allowed to fall around him and his neat outfit
doesn’t tell of a man whho is on the run. The woman
beside him was far from an old woman and mere looking
at her made my c.ock stir. She was elegant and carried
herself with grace. They looked like a couple but their
gift gave them away, particularly that of the man. The
sorceress had a unique gift too, she could read
prophecies. Well, well, well…. It’s been quite some time
since I have met anyone with such ability, what a
consolation this will be for me as I had terrible things
planned for her. I knew for certain she killed my
brother and I will make sure she suffers for it.
“What does the great wizard want with us?” the woman
asked. I didn’t answer but instead whistled for my men
to come out and surround them. When I did, only the
men from the right side of the path came out, none
came out from the left side. In their place was a
woman dressed in torn gown, she had blood all over face
and body. She must have killed my men there, how can
a woman best four trained men in battle? They had
help when they met with Harrison but who is this
woman?
The remaining men went after her and the ones with
me too, leaving just me with the young couple. The
woman fought well, but she couldn’t best eight men at
once, she was soon apprehended and brought to her
knees. She didn’t look scared though and neither did
the man but the sorceress was afraid. After the whole
spectacle of blood and gore, I came down from my
horse and reacted quicker to the sorceress by casting a
spell that binds her to horse, leaving me with the man
with no idea on how to use his gift. I smiled as I walked
towards him as reality was starting to dawn on him as
he suddenly realized how helpless he was. Is this the
simple task that got Harrison killed? Surely, I expected
more from them.

**************************
I was disappointed by the way and manner Kieran
treated me like some spoil from war, it didn’t even
seem like he knew before, well he doesn’t anyway. He
seemed so strange and distant but the way he fought,
it was quite scary. He moved with grace and precision
and he knew just when to move for the kill. This man is
no commoner, he is hiding quite a lot of things behind
that unreadable mask he calls a face. The silly witch
found my scar and pride; how she knew where it should
be still amazes me. She is quite knowledgeable in so
many things and she carried some power too with the
way she killed those fvcking animals. I wanted to do
something much worse to them after what they did to
me, oh, if only that arrogant hunter had released me
sooner. He did anyway, albeit too late. Why do I think
he has feelings for the witch, well, what do I care? He
can have all kinds of feelings for her; I am for the
king and him alone.
I went ahead of them after the embarrassment of
getting myself captured, which will never happen again.
I rode along the path for a while before diverting into
the woods where I waited patiently for the hunter and
his witch to pass. It took them quite some time but
they finally did. They were quite fast as they were
probably trying to make up for lost time. I followed as
quickly as I could, although, I later reduced my distance
so that I wouldn’t be discovered again. Instead of going
through the road that leads to the Northern gate, they
took the deserted path, which was the route to a place
no sane person visits – the forgotten lands. Could it
mean that she is probably a guardian? And if so what
do they want with him? My answers had to wait as I
sensed the gift of someone quite powerful. Someone
with immense abilities was heading towards Kieran and
his witch. I reduced my pace and they did the same
too, the witch must have felt the gift too. She came
and Kieran did the same, they talked for a while
before she bent and picked some amount of sand. She
must have asked him to stretch his arms because he
thrust them towards her after she stood upright. She
started murmuring some words after which I sensed his
glorious gift. The witch locked his powers to protect him
and prevent other dangerous people from tailing them.
Well, it didn’t stop whoever was heading towards this
direction as I am quite certain that’s what made her
release his gift again. But can this unlearned man be of
any use when it comes to the use of magic, I guess I
will have to wait and see.
They mounted their horses and went off to face
whosoever was heading towards them. I picked up pace
but later changed my mind and tied my horse to a tree
before running as fast as I could. I was weak and
hungry after what those animals did to me but I knew
that if I allow another person take Kieran, I might
never get to eat again. I ran but later slowed down
when I saw Kieran’s horse from afar. They had stopped
and I couldn’t tell the reason, I moved slowly and
quietly to see who wanted them. I was close to seeing
the fellow when I heard someone whisper something. I
stopped moving and stayed behind a tree. I slowly
turned to find four men in strategic positions. They
were on their toes and their eyes were fixed on what
was going on the path. Their attires were that of the
soldiers of the northern kingdom which shocked me. Why
would the king of that empty land come after a nobody
like Kieran. The soldiers must been laying siege and
waiting for a signal from someone before pouncing on
Kieran. I couldn’t allow that to happen, so I brought out
my knives and threw both at two of the men. It struck
the back of their heads and they went down
immediately. The other turned to see their comrades on
the floor and came immediately for me when they saw I
was the attacker.
I pulled out another knife strapped to my trousers and
charged towards them too. The first one swung and
missed. He wanted my head while the other thrust out
his sword and it nearly hit me. I stopped the first one
who had recovered from his first miss by holding the
arm that held his sword before pushing my knife into
his heart. Before I could pull out my knife, the second
gave me a vicious kick to my abdomen which brought me
to the ground. I held my stomach in pains which brought
a smile to the brute. He decided to walk slowly towards
me which was a grave mistake by him. I pretended to
be rolling in pains but carefully pulled out my last
knife. He kept his legs between my body and wanted to
impaled me to the ground with his sword but just as he
raised his sword I got up quickly and drove my knife to
his fvcking c.ock. The animal couldn’t even scream as
his words got lost in his throat. The sword fell from his
hands and fell to the ground together with him. I
struggled to my feet and finished him off by running
the knife across his throat. I felt dirty after what I
just did but I didn’t get to clean up as I heard a
whistle and then hurried footsteps filled the air. I
decided to take a look and saw about four men who
were not there earlier. I smiled as I was confident of
walking them to the underworld but I failed to check
my surroundings before showing myself. If I did, I could
have waited for their commander to order them to find
out the reason why the rest didn’t answer the call of
his whistle, which would have afforded me the
opportunity of killing them.
I failed to do that and when their commander who was
an old skinny man ordered the remaining four by his
side to attack me, I knew it was over. I tried but I
couldn’t do much as the number was against me and I
was already weak from the last fight. I was swiftly
apprehended and brought to my knees. I expected the
silly witch to do her neck snapping trick again but she
didn’t. She just stared at the wizard and I wondered
what was wrong with her. The man remained on his horse
and so did Kieran. The old man later came down and he
was full of confidence, he turned his right hand to a
fist and murmured some words which I later got to
know bound the dumb witch to her horse. She was
useless without even throwing a spell, what a witch!
I was really mad at her display of immaturity in the
face of trouble, she was supposed to protect Kieran and
even me who had no gift has done a far better job. The
old man walked slowly towards Kieran who had come
down from his horse. When he was some steps before
him, he smiled and then opened the palms of his hand,
stretching them out. Immediately he did that, Kieran
fell to the ground, screaming from some form of pain.
He was in deep agony as he would hold his head now and
then move his hands to his stomach, then to his knees. I
tried to get up but I was given a punch to my neck
which shut me up. The man smiled after what he has
done to Kieran and then he said,
“You will tell me how you killed my brother.”
I bowed my head in shame as it dawned on me that I
had failed my master for the first time.

KIERAN
**************************
Why can’t I just be left alone? Why do these people
think they own me? They took my family, my life and
my peace. Now, they are hurting my friends with this
old man asking how his fvcking brother was killed. I
should be asking why my innocent wife and daughter
were killed in the most gruesome way. Claudia was right
to be afraid of this man, he knows his magic well.
“Start talking, how did he die?” I kept my mouth
sealed as I tried to stop the pains springing up from
every part of my body. It was like my body was on fire
and the fire was moving from part of my body to
another. I didn’t know where I was anymore as the
pains were starting to make me weak. A hard palm to
my face brought me back to reality,
“Speak or I will do much worse to you.” he looked
towards Vanessa who had her head bowed for reasons I
do not know.
“Your brother left in a beautiful way, he was killed by
his own flames.” I gave him an answer which seemed to
only confuse him.
“What do you mean he was killed by his own flames?” I
ignored him as the fire moved to my head. He hit me
again on the face and this time I got angry. I am not
his prisoner; neither have I done anything wrong, why
then is he hitting me? His brother attacked me and
due to his own failings, he got himself killed. How is
that my fault?
“Ask your brother when you get to the underworld.”
This made the old man really angry, he turned his palms
which and then made a fist out of them before raising
them up. A force from nowhere dragged me up, and
then suspended me in the air. I was just been tossed
around like a toy despite the fact I am told I carry
within me an enormous amount of magic. Look at what
an old man who should be on the path to the underworld
with just a single fist to his head, just because he has
the gift. I was a fool to have refused to believe in the
existence of magic.
“Tell me now or I will cause the fire to merge with your
gift which will surely make your blood boil. You will die
due to the high temperature.”
I didn’t ask him to tell me how he plans to kill me; it
seems he is more of a talker.
“How are you doing this? Attacks from magic shouldn’t
be working on someone with powers like myself.”
“There is more than one route to a river and so it is
for someone like you. You are an anomaly but it doesn’t
make you immune to the elements of nature. Now,
answer my question, you don’t have much time left in
this world.” I am not immune to the elements of nature
which means that he is not also immune which explains
why he took care of Claudia first. He is not attacking
with his own magic; he is just manipulating nature to
fight me which explains his use of fire and air. If I can
do the same too I can get us out of her but how? It
seems you are a very hard man, well, I know how to
break your likes. He turned his attention from me and
looked towards Claudia. He snapped his finger and
threw both his hands up; I heard screaming not just
from her but from Vanessa too. He was doing the same
thing he was doing to them to me but they were
bleeding from their eyes, nose, ears, and mouth, he was
killing them.
“Speak or you might have to tell them how sorry you
are in the underworld.” He smiled after saying that. I
have to do something really quick before he kills them.
Two persons who I had deep feeling died by the hands
of gruesome people such as this old man, I won’t let two
innocent women die because of me, I breathed deep and
spoke within me to my gift. I didn’t know what I was
doing but I did something anyway as I was getting
desperate. I spoke to the gift or whatever to help me
control the elements just as the old was doing. It felt
really funny to me but the situation I was in wasn’t. I
got no reply at first but I later did in the form of
lightening. Lightening fell from the skies and struck
the man but he easily thwarted it aside. But it was
enough to distract him and release me and my friends
from his hold. He tried to re-establish what he started
earlier but I would have none of it, I pushed my palms
out which caused a force to emerge from it and threw
the old man off his feet.
His men came after me but not before stepping on
Vanessa as they ran. Their action made me mad with
rage as I heard clearly, bones breaking in pieces as
result of the impact. Why do the brute descend on the
defenseless and the innocent? The bodies of my wife
and daughter came rushing into my head and I let it
stay this time. I screamed out of the rage that was
making my body shake and my teeth gnash. An
enormous amount of lightening came out of my hands
and ran through the air, smoking the brutes till dead. I
ran towards Vanessa and checked if she was still alive,
she was. I thanked the spirits and turned my attention
towards the old man who was still struggling to his
feet. Claudia held her head and neck which meant she
was fine. The man saw me coming and started
whispering some words; I started screaming again and
fell to my knees in pains and agony.
“You are a natural, I can’t wait any longer. I will have
your gift here and now.”
I heard Claudia scream no and started running towards
me but the man just raised her up just by the
movement of his head and tossed her somewhere into
the woods.
Every part of my body was burning; I felt my soul
pulling out of me. I tried my best to resist him but I
couldn’t, the man was just too strong and I was helpless
before him. He looked up suddenly and then conjured
another form of lightening from his left arm and
hurled the dark thing towards something but the thing
returned to him with the same venom it left and struck
him really hard. He fell and I was released from his
hold, I turned back as I struggled to my feet to find a
horrible looking Vanessa who collapsed after battling to
take another step. I ran towards her and carried her; I
kept her on a horse and mounted another, dragging the
other with me. I went in the direction of where Claudia
was tossed praying to the spirits that her life should be
spared. I found her on close to a tree with blood
flowing freely from her hair. I came down and put her
still body on my horse before mounting it again and
directing the other horse too. I was struggling to move
as fast as I wanted so I left the woods against my
earlier resolve and went back into the path. I released
the other horse as we picked up pace heading into the
only place I could be safe – the forgotten lands.

KIERAN
**************************
“Mother will like to speak with you, hunter.” Another
one of those sorceresses was here to repeat the same
statement already spoken by five of them. They seem
to be hard of hearing, I decided to look at this one and
give her my meanest look, and maybe she can finally
get the message.
“I said I am not leaving this room until she is healed,
are those simple words so fvcking difficult to
under………” I was unable to complete my sentence when
I turned to see face of the sorceress. The words were
lost in my throat, my angry stare changed to that of
awe immediately I set my eyes on her. I closed my
opened mouth and quickly faced the window; I was
rather ashamed at my inability to hide my surprise. I
acted like a little child seeing the stars for the first
time but it couldn’t be helped. I have never seen such a
beautiful face before, I couldn’t continue screaming at
such a perfect being.
“I want to be left alone.” I managed to whisper after
finding my voice again. Moments later, I heard the door
lock and I thought she had left only for me to see her
right behind me when I turned from facing the window.
I was surprised and just chuckled, and tried to look at
everything but her face. She just stood there too and
had this expressionless look on her face when I managed
to look at it. I just couldn’t explain what was wrong with
me, I wasn’t myself. Is this some kind of magic too? I
walked away from her and sat beside Vanessa who was
still asleep ever since she collapsed almost a day ago.
“She can’t be healed, magic cannot work on her and I
am sure you are aware why that is so.” I heard the
sorceress say and I just nodded.
I arrived in the forgotten lands just before dawn as I
rode all night. I didn’t stop for fear that I might be
followed by yet another person after my gift. I didn’t
cover my tracks and my gift was still unlocked which
means anyone could find me. Vanessa still hasn’t moved
and Claudia was still bleeding from her head. As the sun
drew closer to opening his gift upon the earth, I grew
more scared that I might lose them as I felt I wasn’t
still close enough to my destination. I kept on moving
and as I passed a certain bridge which mysteriously
disappeared as soon as I left it, a thick fog enveloped
me. I barely managed to stop the other horse in time
before I lost my sight as I couldn’t see anything due to
the fog. I continued riding although slowly this time, I
was defenseless and was in the company of two women
with no idea of where they were. The only thing I could
do was pray as I felt like a rabbit running into a trap
after its home have been filled with smoke. After
riding blindly for a while without hitting anything, I was
forced to stop when a huge gate appeared from
nowhere in front of me. I was scared at first with my
heart beating fast against my chest. I calmed myself
down and came down from my horse. I walked back
from the gate to try and see where I could pass
through but I failed to do because I couldn’t see
enough. I was getting tired of all this as I feared that
Claudia might bleed to her death. I tried once more
time but I got the same result, I decided to hit the
huge metal thing and hoped for an answer.
The moment my hand touched the gate, it opened on its
own accord. I refused to be shocked by that and ran
back to my horse, I mounted it and hit the other horse
as I rode into the city. The fog was no longer there but
I could tell it was close to dawn. The path I was riding
in was unusually smooth and the few houses I saw had
light in them, which meant people were still asleep. I
didn’t ride for long though not that I knew where I was
going to anyway. I was stopped by a man on a horse who
asked me to follow him. I was reluctant at first but
when I looked towards Claudia who was already turning
pale, I followed the strange looking man who was
wearing a black turnip. Was he a sort of prince or
special kind of wizard or something? He led me to
another part of the city which was quite deserted and
looked dead. I rode for a while before going through
another bridge that didn’t disappear. The bridge lead
us to a huge compound filled with fragrances and
scents. The moment I stepped into the compound,
women of various sizes started running from every
building in the compound and I wondered why they were
running. They stopped when they were some distance
from me, some of them screamed and some of them
covered their mouth calling on the good spirits. I wasn’t
interested in why they left their beds because it was
clear most of them were sleeping before something
made them leave their rooms. That thing couldn’t be
me, it just couldn’t.
“Where is Anna?” I asked as I came down from my
horse to bring down Claudia. The women stopped
screaming and everywhere became quiet after I asked
the question. I expected an answer but they were
acting like I just said the most despicable thing ever,
“Where is Anna, one of your own is dying.” I said, still
carrying Claudia. They still refused to answer, until I
heard of them say,
“We do not call her by that name; mother is what we
call her.”
“Well, I don’t what you call her; just tell her I want to
speak with her. In the meantime, these women need
healing; they are dying as we I speak.”
Two of the women along with the strange man came
forward and carried Claudia to one of the buildings.
Another two came with me to help Vanessa but moved
back immediately they touched her.
“What is it?” I asked, a little shocked at their action.
They didn’t answer me but instead ran back to the
crowd. I ignored them and carried Vanessa heading off
to another building I saw but I was stopped from going
any further by one of the women. She was short and
lean but that didn’t stop her from standing up to me.
“You will not take that filth one more step into this
compound. She doesn’t belong here and is a servant of
our enemy. Take her out of here before I destroy her.”
I ignored what she said and sought to go on but she
stood her ground, I moved away from her but she
followed me. I was getting impatient,
“Move woman, I don’t have the time for all this.” The
women covered their mouth when they heard what I just
said and that only made the woman angry. I took
another step and this time she stopped by creating a
wall between me and her. I became angry and I charged
through the wall which surprised the woman, she moved
back and once again resumed her position by standing in
front of me. I grew tired of her shenanigans and called
to my gift once more, a storm started building and
when an enormous stream of lightening struck the
space between the both of us, she screamed and moved
out of my way. The rest of the women screamed and
ran back the way they came. I looked for a building and
saw one where they weren’t much light. I got in and
found a room with a bed. I set Vanessa on the bed
before shutting the door. I pulled off her clothes and
covered her with a thick cloth.
No one came into the room until the sun was already
out. I saw three women at the doorstep when I
answered their knocks; they looked quite uncomfortable
when they entered the room. i watched each of them
fail to heal Vanessa because their magic just couldn’t
seem to pass through to her. I shut the door after
they left and took hold of her hand, praying to the
good spirits to heal her but it didn’t seem so as her
heartbeat kept getting slower, I was losing my
protector.
